Edmonton’s Legacy of Seedy Events
The tradition of Seedy events in Edmonton began with Seedy Saturday, a grassroots effort sustained by passionate volunteers. In 2007, a small but dedicated group of organizers revived Edmonton’s Seedy Sunday, transforming it into a beloved community tradition. Over 400 gardeners attended that first March gathering, rekindling their love for gardening and local food security.
Today, events like Seedy Saturday continue to grow this legacy, uniting gardeners and sustainability advocates across the city.
From Seed to Table
Attending a Seedy event is about more than planting a garden; it’s about fostering a sustainable food system. Seeds exchanged at these events can grow into juicy apples for cider pressing, tart cherries for homemade jams, or crisp vegetables for pickling. If you’re inspired to take your harvest to the next level, explore OFRE’s Recipes for ideas or join one of our hands-on Workshops to learn preservation techniques like canning, fermenting, and cider pressing.
