Why Avonmore? A Neighbourhood That Grows Together
Since 1957, the Avonmore Community League has been building spaces for family connection—indoors and out.
From its original skating rink to today’s splash park and arts programs, this neighbourhood knows how to make community happen.
Nestled beside the Mill Creek Ravine park system, Avonmore offers nature, amenities, and a family-friendly vibe that makes it the perfect place to wrap up our cider celebration.
Fun fact: the neighbourhood is named after Lord Avonmore of Ireland, who passed through Edmonton on his way to the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897. Not much gold was found—but clearly, he left his name behind.
What Families Can Expect
This final event is extra hands-on, especially for kids ages 8–14.
Young cider-makers can mash apples on our pedal-powered Apple Annihilator and help press juice they’ll get to taste on the spot. There’ll be food preservation demos—like fruit leather and apple butter—and a full orchard blessing ceremony you won’t want to miss.
🍎 Bring apples if you’ve got them! We’ll turn them into fresh cider for the whole community.
✔️ Playground and splash park onsite
✔️ Green space for relaxing or playing
✔️ Wheelchair-accessible washrooms inside the hall
Got Apples? Bring a Tote or Two
Help us make cider by bringing your backyard apples (or ones you picked for a neighbour). One 25L tote = ~20 pounds of fruit. Whether it’s one tote or five, your apples help power the celebration.
Want to pledge apples ahead of time? Visit our apple and fruit donations page and let us know what you can bring.
Meet the Hosts: Avonmore Community League
The Avonmore Community League is all about community-powered connection. They host family-friendly events all year, run play-based preschool programs, and maintain a splash park, outdoor rink, and accessible gathering spaces.
Avonmore Community League has been a hub for gardeners, families, and food lovers for decades.
Their Yard and Garden Club bloomed during 2020 and now offers seed swaps, workshops, garden tours, and a youth gardening program that helps kids get their hands dirty—in the best way possible.
They also support a wide range of events and seasonal activities in the neighbourhood, building a strong sense of community from the ground up.
Their proximity to the Mill Creek Ravine means you can make a full afternoon of it—bike the trails, pack a picnic, and enjoy cider in a setting where city and nature meet.
