OFRE would like to announce that we will be operational this summer!
We consulted with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to create our COVID-19 Safety Guidelines. These measures will protect our members, fruit growers/homeowners and the food charities to whom we donate. Following these best practices, we can safely pick and donate fruit this season.
Our fruit rescues will be different in some ways.
MOST NOTABLE FRUIT RESCUE CHANGES
-
- On each fruit rescue request and fruit rescue sign up form, our members and fruit growers must:
- Agree to read and adhere to our COVID-19 Safety Guidelines.
- Declare that they not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.
- Declare that they not required to self-isolate according to AHS current isolation guidelines.
- For regular backyard fruit rescues, only 1 member will be able to sign up for each pick. This policy means only one individual or family unit will be on the property at any time.
- There should be no direct contact between the fruit growers, and our members/volunteers.
- Group picks and events this summer will require physical distancing and face masks.
- On each fruit rescue request and fruit rescue sign up form, our members and fruit growers must:
We hope you feel comfortable rescuing fruit with our new safety policies in place.
Please sign up as a member to rescue fruit, if you have not already.
OR register your backyard fruit trees and invite our members to rescue your fruit.
As always, we will not be able to rescue all the fruit offered by the community. But, we look forward to rescuing as much fruit as possible, and getting it into hands that need it!!
We strive to increase food security in Edmonton and surrounding communities.

Stay safe, healthy, and have a fruitful summer!
Sincerely,
The OFRE Team
